some things about me
**On September 15, 2009, I updated my site so that this is now my About Me page.
Professional
I have fashioned a career out of helping other people express themselves creatively. Whether my clients want to market a message online or wear accessories that are distinctive and unique, some of my greatest pleasure comes from helping others see the creative within themselves. (Although I should mention here that I've almost completely shut down the jewelry design side of my life for now; haven't removed this part of my site yet, and still get orders for remaining pieces, so we'll leave it this way for a while longer, eh?)
I increasingly collaborate with new users of Squarespace to help design their websites, (see some samples here.) On occasion I also do some design and layout work, and plan events, but more and more often this type of work is now reserved for natural collaborations with those with whom I'm working on website development.
I also sometimes design jewelry with ceramic pendants that I never - so far - duplicate. Although my designs emerged from the love of playing in clay, the pieces have evolved during the last few years and I've also been exploring designs that don't include clay pieces. Every now and then I also teach workshops to a group of senior citizens who want to learn to make their own beaded jewelry.
All my projects thrill and delight me and I tend to think I'm a really lucky girl to have been able to try so many unique things. Much of the process will unfold before your eyes in my blog. Same as always.
Personal
An East Coast woman, I'm looking for the best way to balance growing up and staying young. It occurs to me that if I can harness the best of both, I'll be on the right track. I'm further trying to sort out how to live a life filled with creativity, interesting people and places, free-spirited kindness, great stories, learning, music and patience. My attention span is about the size of your average potted plant and most of the time I can make that work for me. When I'm not so successful, those who love me and find me charming and worthy are - God bless 'em - incredibly patient with me.
I am an Aquarius. Remarkably, most of the descriptions of Aquarians fit me pretty comfortably. As do the description of the Myers Briggs ENFP.
Blogging is an absolute hoot. Regular online writing has been the most consistent outlet for my near-lifelong drive to get the words out. Tangentially, I'm increasingly fascinated by the expansion of technological tools that ordinary people can use to enhance their lives.
I was only able to sit still long enough to get a bachelor's degree in English with minors in Art and Psychology. I'm not certain those should be capitalized and that annoys me enough to mention it. Somewhat related to that minor concern, I'm on a quest to find a midpoint between caring too much and not quite giving a damn.
A Little Extra
Beyond that, I'm completely in love with my nephew, "Mr. Pie," and write about him on occasion. And force people to look at pictures of him, or listen to stories illustrating his above-average level of charm and delightfulness.
Writing an "About" page on a blog often feels like a futile activity. How can we tell others who we are in a page? Having recognized that, you're welcome to peek over at an old incarnation of this page in which I wrote a long list of tidbits about me: Melody 101. Or just read the blog. Where you'll learn far more than you want to know. Unless you're curious about my private life. In which case you'll likely be pretty disappointed.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you visit again!
